I am a former police Chief Superintendent-turned crime novelist who has four completed manuscripts to offer, with a fifth in progress, two in development and others waiting in the wings. After a long and varied career that took me from CID to Senior Command, I decided it was time to scratch the itch I had long felt and see what was below the surface. Back then I didn't know if my hankering to write was anything other than the deluded musings of a brain addled by all the form filling that sadly, is all too big a part of today's police service. As far as the writing goes, the jury is still out. Married with two children, I live in Cheshire but spend part of my time on the beautiful island of Cyprus where I also have a home.

If there is one thing my time in the police taught me, it is that the world can be dark, dangerous, shocking and sometimes tragic. I also discovered that a great many outwardly-respectable people harbour secrets they will never share - even with those closest to them.
These are some of the principles that inform my novels. As such I occasionally touch on subjects that probably wouldn't be described as "cosy fireside reading." One of my interests lies in portraying the reality of policework (but without the boring bits) and the people who inhabit that world - good and bad. For that reason, my characters are often flawed. Justice is not guaranteed. Nor is violent death a thing I choose to gloss over. My aim is not to shock, merely to tell it as it is. It's bad enough.
